Loki season 2 has taken a leaf out of Moon Knight’s book by hiring directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.
Celebrated for their kaleidoscopic sci-fi indies The Endless and Synchronic, these two will be in the Marvel family for the foreseeable future, as Deadline reports they’re calling ‘ACTION!’ on the majority of the six episodes.
Tom Hiddleston once again returns to the role that made his name, while Loki’s season 1 showrunner Michael Waldron executive produces and Eric Martin writes.
After the events at the end of the first season surrounding the Time Variance Authority, Mobius star Own Wilson has confirmed that he will be returning for the second outing, though his dynamic with Hiddleston’s Loki will be an interesting one given he now no longer knows who he is.
Similarly, Gugu Mbatha-Raw has confirmed her return as judge Ravonna Renslayer who was last seen fleeing the TVA after discovering it was being run by outside forces.
Speaking of her excitement for season two earlier this month, she shared on Good Morning America: “I just love Renslayer. I’m so excited to explore her further and I’m so happy that people are really looking forward to the next season.”
Switching back over to Moon Knight – starring Oscar Isaac as a sleepless superhero bestowed with the powers of an Egyptian lunar god – the actor himself recently discussed why he’s glad this story is being told televisually.
“There was a lot of room to try stuff because there wasn’t the pressure that we got to make sure we make however many hundreds of millions of dollars on the opening weekend. So we could make it very point-of-view,” he said. “We could make very weird decisions. At the moment, at least – and I don’t imagine it’s going to go backwards — it feels like that’s where more of the risk is being taken because it can, financially.”
Loki is streaming, while season 2 has been officially confirmed. Moon Knight premieres on March 30.
