The Stranger Things cast has grown up in front of our eyes in the six years since the show premiered, but that has led to some growing pains along the way.
Speaking to Flaunt Magazine, Will Byers actor Noah Schnapp admitted that going through puberty caused a few issues during production, as he had outgrown his character; he was 17 while Will was 15.
“It was the peak time of change, and puberty and growing up and just everything was changing with all of us,” he said, “and the directors were just not loving it.
“I remember one of the producers coming up to me and telling me, ‘Noah, is there any way you could just speak in a higher tone and just slouch a little bit? Like, we need you to keep that season 1 innocence that you had.’
“That was like, ‘I don’t know what to tell you. My voice is dropping. I don’t sound young anymore.'”
Schnapp seems to have taken a leaf out of Billy Hargrove and Heather Holloway’s book by becoming a lifeguard in real-life, stating recently that he wanted to spend his final summer before going off to university having a non-acting/fame related job.
That doesn’t mean that he’s leaving acting behind, of course, as there’s the fifth and final season of Stranger Things to film.
“Will is like my baby. I’ve curated and built this character for years, and it’s very crazy to think that it will be over, before I know it and that’s it,” Schnapp said.
“But, it’s such a big franchise that it’s never really going to be over. There will always be spin-offs and things to come. I don’t know, I’ll do movies with Millie and whatnot in the future. There’s always more to look forward to.”
Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are now streaming worldwide on Netflix.
