Outlander fans have a lot to look forward to as the series approaches its final season. In a recent update, showrunner Matthew B. Roberts and executive producer Maril Davis revealed intriguing hints about what’s to come in season eight, particularly regarding the mysterious storyline involving Faith Fraser.
The season seven finale shocked viewers with revelations tied to Claire Fraser’s (Caitríona Balfe) traumatic past—the heartbreaking loss of her daughter, Faith. Roberts suggested that this pivotal moment from season two holds deeper meaning than previously understood. Speaking to TV Insider, he said there was “something mysteriously magical and mystical about that moment that you don’t understand,” hinting that the upcoming season will explore the true nature of what happened.
Roberts added that many of the events in Outlander seem to be “constructed by destiny,” and teased, “If there’s magic in Faith and there’s magic in that story, then we’ll see what happens.” This has led fans to speculate that season eight may delve further into the show’s mystical elements.
Davis contributed her own insight, noting the significance of the color blue, which symbolizes healing. She encouraged viewers to rewatch past episodes, especially “Faith” from season two, as they may notice subtle clues that were planted in earlier seasons. Notably, a scene from season seven features Claire wearing a blue shawl as she rises from bed to open a window—mirroring a similar moment in the “Faith” episode involving a blue heron, perhaps signaling a deeper thematic connection.
The show’s producers have previously indicated that the television adaptation may diverge from Diana Gabaldon’s source material. Gabaldon herself has speculated about a possible alternate timeline, where Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon) might have transported the deceased Faith to another era and revived her—allowing her to live, though separated from her parents.
This year marks the ninth anniversary of the emotionally devastating “Faith” episode, adapted from Dragonfly in Amber. The story was a turning point for Claire and Jamie (Sam Heughan), whose relationship was forever altered by their loss.
Fan theories have surged online, with some viewers questioning whether Fanny Pocock’s (Florrie May Wilkinson) mother—also named Faith—could actually be Claire and Jamie’s lost daughter. Others have speculated that the upcoming prequel, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, may be connected to the Faith arc. There’s particular interest in the character of Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield), Claire’s mother, who could potentially tie into this expanded storyline.
While Starz has yet to announce an official premiere date for season eight, production has wrapped, and editing is currently underway. With Blood of My Blood slated to premiere in August, the final season of Outlander is expected to air in late 2025 or early 2026.
