Attack on Titan fans had their patience rewarded this week as the first half of the show’s Final Season: Part 3, an hour-long special episode, was released.

Their happiness might have been shortlived however as the series stuck to its tradition of killing off major characters, most notably Survey Corps leader Hange Zoë.

Hange was a mainstay across all four seasons of Attack on Titan, playing a key role in developing weapons and tools to aid in key battles against the titans.

Viewers were quick to vent their emotions on social media – even if readers of the original manga knew this day was coming.

“Mappa really did hange’s fighting scene justice, i had goosebumps wtf” one user wrote in appreciation of MAPPA Studio’s adaptation of the source material, a sentiment shared by many fans.

Another fan shared their emotional reaction to the character’s final scene, writing: “As soon as I saw her starting to burn up, I knew these tears won’t be held back. Goodbye, Hange.”

Attack on Titan viewers were also quick to point out that Hange is the latest in a long line of Captain Levi’s friends to fall in battle, with one fan writing: “This sequence right here, once again levi has lost another comrade “.

Fans were also quick to pile on praise (and tears) for the character’s final moments, which showed them reunited with fallen comrades.

Attack On Titan’s official Twitter account has confirmed that the second half of Final Season: Part 3 will air in ‘Fall 2023’ meaning the show’s final moments are mere months away.

By all accounts, the second part of this final chapter will also be in the form of an extra special, hour-long episode.
