Batwoman season 2 spoilers follow.
Batwoman has cast Riverdale’s Robin Givens ahead of season 3.
The actor, who played Sierra McCoy on the hit teen drama, is set to appear in the series regular role of Jada Jet, the “passionate and hardworking” CEO of Jet Industries.
According to Deadline, the character is “a woman who has worked her way through life’s ups and downs to climb her way to the top – all while being extremely protective over her impetuous son”.
In the show’s dramatic season two finale, Rachel Skarsten’ villainous Alice revealed to Ryan Wilder/Batwoman (Javicia Leslie) that her biological mother didn’t actually die in childbirth like she’s believed all these years, and is in fact alive.
Alongside Givens’ casting, it was also reported that Jada has “a deep past that forced her to give up her first-born child”, so it could well be that Jada is Ryan’s long-lost parent. Whether the titular vigilante will discover that fully for herself over the course of the next chapter, if that’s indeed the case, is anyone’s guess.
Last month, showrunner Caroline Dries told Entertainment Weekly that Ryan’s lack of maternal love would prove to be “a point of drama or an obstacle for her moving forward”.
She added: “She had it with her adoptive mom, but that was ripped away from her.
“So if you’re a child that’s been through the foster system your entire life, I think there’s always this question mark hovering over you of, ‘Where did I come from? Who gave me my looks? Who gave me my interests?’
“For Ryan, that’s something she’s going to grapple with – how much does she want to know? – in season three.”
Batwoman airs on The CW in the US. E4 airs the series in the UK.
