Black Adam has just gained another cast member in the form of Tony-nominated actor James Cusati-Moyer.

Deadline reports that Cusati-Moyer has boarded the upcoming DC film from New Line, which stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the titular role. No details about the character were revealed, but the actor is the latest prestigious performer to join the cast. Cusati-Moyer is best known for playing Dustin in Jeremy O. Harris’ Slave Play, which landed him a Tony nomination. Along with his theatrical work, he’s also appeared on the TV shows The Path and Prodigal Son. He recently finished filming the Shonda Rimes series Inventing Anna for Netflix, which stars Julia Garner.

Black Adam is one of DC’s longest-planned films, as Johnson has been touting his turn as the anti-hero for years. The film has suffered numerous release days, which have become all too common for DC’s live-action films. Originally scheduled to release this past December, last month saw the movie announce a new release date for the summer of next year.

Little is known about the plot of the film, which will follow the wizard Shazam’s previous champion, Black Adam, teased in the Zachary Levi-starring superhero film. Typically a villain in the comics, Adam has become more of an anti-hero in recent years, and it seems Johnson’s portrayal will follow suit. In the post-Future State DC Universe, Black Adam has even joined the Justice League alongside longtime rival Superman, perhaps teasing the character’s live-action fate.

Joining Black Adam will be an ever-growing Justice League of America roster, featuring the big-screen debuts of numerous classic DC heroes. Pierce Brosnan was recently announced as Doctor Fate. Meanwhile, Aldis Hodge (One Night in Miami…) will play Hawkman, Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) will play Atom Smasher and Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets) will play Cyclone. Rounding out the cast will be Sarah Shahi (The Rookie) as Isis and Marwan Kenzari (Aladdin) in an unspecified role.

The film will be produced by Johnson with a script from Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Shallows director Jaume Collet-Serra will helm the film after directing Johnson and Emily Blunt in Disney’s Jungle Cruise.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam stars Dwayne Johnson, Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Quintessa Swindell, Pierce Brosnan, Marwan Kenzari and Sarah Shahi. The film arrives in theaters July 29, 2022.
