Oppenheimer’s Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt have revealed what happened after the film’s cast walked out of the London premiere.
The cast walked the red carpet for the film last summer, but left before the screening upon learning the US actors’ union SAG-AFTRA had authorised a strike.
Months later, Murphy, Blunt and co-star Robert Downey Jr sat down on Jimmy Kimmel Live and revealed what they did after they made their exits.
“In true Irish fashion I went to the bar,” Murphy said.
“We went to the bar in solidarity,” Blunt added. “I think a few of us went, even this one (Downey Jr) which, I have to say, when Downey goes to a bar afterwards, you do this thing.
“You proclaim you’re about to leave, you say ‘t minus three minutes’ and then just vaporise, so fast, it’s incredible.”
“It was a good night,” Murphy added, as he and Blunt revealed that they stayed out until 4am.
When Kimmel asked if the cast stayed out so late because they no longer had to get up early to promote the film, they agreed that it was indeed the case.
Blunt also revealed that when shooting some early parts of the movie, the cast had to say in a “scary” hotel that reminded her of a “cell block” or “little cabin”, joking that Christopher Nolan prefers to spend the film’s budget on the film, rather than accommodation.
“Every penny goes on the screen,” she said.
