Doctor Who star Arthur Darvill is reprising his role as Rory Williams for a new, audio spin-off series.
The Broadchurch and Legends of Tomorrow actor portrayed Rory, the Eleventh Doctor’s (Matt Smith) companion from 2010 to 2012, and now he’s back for an entire new bunch of adventures titled The Lone Centurion.
Fans will remember Rory’s frightfully romantic gesture from the fifth series, during which he waited almost 2,000 years for Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) to be released from the Pandorica. This new radio series will explore his globe-trotting adventures during that period of your time .
The Lone Centurion volumes one and two are now available to pre-order as collector’s edition three-disc box sets or downloads from £16.99 each, exclusively from bigfinish.com.
The first volume begins in second century Rome, with Rory searching for the Pandorica, only to end fighting as a gladiator in the Colosseum.
On joining the audio series, Arthur said: “It seemed like an offer I couldn’t refuse. As soon as I read the scripts, I was like, ‘Oh well, they totally get it, they’ve really nailed his voice’.
“It’s been a stunning thanks to revisit it during a very different thanks to what it had been , but to try to to something more with this character.
“It’s funny but also quite epic, which is so lovely with what you can do on audio: to have these huge stories which in another medium would break the budget!”
The Lone Centurion volume one is due for release in May 2021, with volume two to follow in July 2022.
