Fred Armisen Confirms ‘Wednesday’ Uncle Fester Spinoff Is in the Works

A fan-favorite character from Wednesday is officially getting his own spotlight. Fred Armisen, who portrays Uncle Fester in Netflix’s hit Addams Family series, has confirmed that a spinoff centered on the eccentric character is moving forward.

The actor revealed the news during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show. When host Jimmy Fallon asked about the long-rumored project, Armisen responded: “Yeah, we’re working on it… It’s fantastic… It’s amazing.” Though he didn’t share further details, fans immediately took to Reddit to speculate about what the series could explore.

Some suggested a prequel focusing on Fester’s hijinks with Thing under his various aliases, including the fan-favorite “Fester Fiesta.” Others wondered if the show might fill in gaps between his Addams family childhood and his disappearance in the Bermuda Triangle. One fan theorized an origin-style story could answer questions like, “Where does he get his supplies? Who gives him leads on scores? Does he work with Outcasts?”

For now, the project does not have a release date or confirmed cast. However, it’s expected that Tim Burton, who serves as executive producer and director on Wednesday, will also be involved in shaping the spinoff. Burton’s vision has been central to the series, which reimagines characters once brought to life by Christopher Lloyd in the 1990s films and Jackie Coogan in the original TV show.

Wednesday Will Return for Season 3
Meanwhile, Netflix has already renewed Wednesday for a third season. The announcement came in July, ahead of the premiere of Season 2 Part 1, ensuring Jenna Ortega’s gothic sleuth will continue her adventures at Nevermore Academy.

Co-creator Alfred Gough hinted that spinoffs were always part of the plan, saying: “It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at.” Netflix executive Bela Bajaria echoed the sentiment, noting: “There’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.”

In addition, an animated Addams Family movie has been announced. While it won’t be connected to Netflix’s series, it underscores the growing appetite for stories from the macabre family.

Fans may have to be patient for new episodes, though. Nearly three years passed between Wednesday Season 1 and Season 2, partly due to Hollywood strikes that stalled production across the industry. The third season is expected to begin filming in early 2026, which could put its release in mid-to-late 2027.
