Grey’s Anatomy spoilers follow.

Grey’s Anatomy gave fans a bit of a double whammy this week by bringing back two characters from the show’s past.

In Thursday’s (April 1) episode, both Chyler Leigh and Eric Dane returned as Lexie Grey and Mark Sloan, respectively, appearing on Meredith’s hallucinatory beach as she continues to battle COVID-19.

However, it turns out Chyler’s return proved logistically difficult for the show, as she was filming Supergirl in Vancouver and as such wasn’t able to physically reunite with her co-stars.

Still, they luckily were still able to film remotely, as Eric explained to The Hollywood Reporter: “Chyler was in Vancouver. So we had to work some magic.

“Chyler could get here but then she couldn’t get back to Canada. There was some greenscreen. There was a lot of me and Ellen.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Eric admitted that upon his return, it felt like he had “never left” Grey’s, adding: “It was very comfortable and very easy, and it was so nice to see a lot of the same faces with the crew.

“It’s a role that always fit for me, like one of those great old T-shirts. And it was just like putting the t-shirt back on and hanging out on a beach for a couple days, and catching up with some old friends.”

Lexie and Mark’s returns follow those of Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and George O’Malley (TR Knight) as part of the beach storylines. Let’s hope even more older faces pop up in the future.
