Grey’s Anatomy season 19 and 20 spoilers follow.
Grey’s Anatomy has released a first look at season 20, with Ellen Pompeo set to return.
The hit medical drama’s milestone season will premiere on ABC on March 14, 2024 — with Dr Meredith Grey making a cameo appearance. The titular character notably departed as a series regular in season 19.
The new teaser begins with Meredith returning to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. “How long do I have to wait?” she asks, before the interns are seen getting involved in a chaotic situation.
Season 20 will likely pick up directly from the cliffhanger ending of the previous season, which saw new hospital chief Dr Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) unexpectedly collapse during surgery — with her fate left hanging in the balance.
The new trailer gives a glimpse into Teddy’s “critical condition”, while also teasing the romance between Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) and Atticus Lincoln (Chris Carmack), as well as Richard Webber’s (James Pickens Jr.) addiction struggles.
New interns Simone Griffith (Alexis Floyd) and Lucas Adams (Niko Terho) are also featured in the first look, after Simone notably called off her wedding to be with Lucas in the season 19 finale.
Station 19 will also return next year, following recent confirmation that the show will end after its upcoming seventh season.
The Grey’s Anatomy spin-off — which stars Jaina Lee Ortiz and Jason George — follows the lives of the firefighters at Seattle Fire Station 19.
After ABC confirmed the show’s cancellation, producer Shonda Rhimes paid tribute to the cast, crew and fans who have supported the series.
“Grateful for an unforgettable run,” she wrote on Instagram. “A heartfelt salute to the exceptional cast whose brilliance brought the characters to life and to the viewers who continued to make it possible! Thank you for the magic, the moments, and the memories.”
