What we didn’t know is that our beloved Supernatural has also taken inspiration from the ‘Sandman’.
While answering questions on his Twitter, Neil talked about the Jon Peters script for the Sandman adaptation. But when a fan asked him about the Eric Kripke’s proposed script, the Sandman author responded saying that it was ‘Terrific’, but due to the confinements of the network television, the show would have lost the essence of Sandman. Kripke responded to the assessment of his favorite comic book author admitting that it would have indeed failed and resulted in a bad show. He’s glad that Neil Gaiman waited it out and now we have the perfect Sandman adaptation on Netflix. Eric Kripke who is currently busy with ‘The Boys’ Season 4 revealed in a tweet about the influence of the Sandman on his show Supernatural. Now if we look back at Supernatural again, we will notice that many of the themes, scenes, and visuals are heavily colored by Sandman. 2. THE LOVE INTEREST?
While Sam and Dean are pretty lucky when it comes to cheating death and escaping the impossible situations, but their luck runs out when it comes to romantic relationships. Both the brothers struggled with a stable relationship. The tragedy is that even if they found love, they were either forced to step away or they ended up losing their partner in some cruel fashion. There was one potential love interest for Jensen’s character Dean Winchester in the earlier seasons, it was Jo Harvelle whose character was played by Alona Tal. Jo and her mother Ellen were the family friends of John Winchester.
The actress Alona Tal revealed how her character Jo Harvelle almost became the half-sibling of Dean. When she first spoke to Eric Kripke, she was told that there’s a possibility that she could turn out to be the little sister of Dean. Actually, Eric Kripke was confused about writing Jo as whether a love interest or a half-sister. Kripke and the writers team were going back and forth between the love interest for Dean and learning that she’s his half-sister. But this was around 2006-2008, it was around a time when WB Network wouldn’t have entertained the idea that a love interest turning out to be a half-sister. Eventually many felt that Jo wasn’t the right character to be Dean’s love interest. This is why Kripke and writers were careful with writing the character of Bela, to not make seem like a love interest of the Winchesters.
