Supernatural premiered on The WB in 2005 and ran on its successor network The CW until its 2020 finale, wrapping up after 15 seasons. As the actors and crew worked on the series for over a decade and a half, they never failed to acknowledge an important milestone, and Jared Padalecki just addressed the fourth anniversary since they wrapped filming.

On Sept. 10, Padalecki, who played Sam Winchester on the show, hopped on Instagram to celebrate the occasion, sharing a video of the cast and crew after filming wrapped.

The final season happened during the pandemic and premiered its final episode on Nov. 19, 2020, after 327 aired episodes. Since then, Supernatural’s popularity continued growing and kept a huge following, and Padalecki’s message teased a revival again.

“Four years ago TODAY, a bunch of us stood on a bridge to say “see ya later” to characters, and stories, that we will cherish forever,” he wrote in the caption. “Being back in Vancouver for this strange anniversary has certainly made me want to say THANK YOU to the #spnfamily, on all sides of the camera, who made it all possible.” He ended the message with a teaser for the reunion, “Til we meet again.”

Jensen Ackles, who portrayed Dean Winchester, also liked Padalecki’s post and jumped in the comments to express his love for the Supernatural fandom. “Happy Anniversary, my brother,” he wrote. “And to all my SPN brothers and sisters…I miss and love you all.”

The Supernatural Lead Stars Teased a Reboot
Supernatural’s finale awkwardly wrapped all the loose ends, eventually ending with Dean and Sam reunited in Heaven. However, fans weren’t thrilled with Dean’s character arc and subsequent death in the finale, and, given the restrictions during the pandemic, it didn’t allow the cast and crew to film as usual. During a convention in December 2023, Padalecki and Ackles teased that there might be more to the story.

They further fueled the reboot conversation in the upcoming months, promising fans that they are considering a way to bring back the beloved characters, as long as it doesn’t hurt the story. After the Winchester brothers fought every evil there is — mythical creatures, spiritual beings, and even God, traveling between Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory back to Earth, it’s difficult to find a way to bring them back. However, both Ackles and Padalecki highlighted how important it is to make sure the story aligns with the previous 15 seasons.

The Supernatural Reunion Might Happen on The Boys First
Although there are no concrete plans to bring Supernatural back, Jared Padalecki gave a reasonable timeline to explore their options: sometime in 2025, half a decade after the series finale. The wait is almost done, but both actors have more projects in the works, and one in common: The Boys. The satirical supernatural show, which airs on Prime Video, comes from Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, and stars Ackles alongside other Supernatural alums, who are part of the series already.

With The Boys officially set to end after the upcoming fifth season, Kripke confirmed that he is trying to bring Padalecki on board. Filming for the new season, which is expected to air sometime in 2026, will start at the beginning of 2025, and, so far, there are no details about Padalecki’s character, but he agreed that he would love to join the show. If that doesn’t happen, there are other ways to reunite Ackles and Padalecki. Ackles, who plays Soldier Boy, will lead a prequel series to The Boys called Vought Rising, giving Padalecki an opportunity to reunite with his co-star there.
