The Supernatural reunion chatter is getting louder, and Jared Padalecki just teased an encouraging timeline to revisit the show. The fantasy-horror series ran on The CW for 15 seasons, but fans are hoping for more Winchester adventures.

Supernatural lead actors Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki teased a possible reunion in December 2023, and the surrounding chatter hasn’t stopped since. Although Supernatural had a definite ending after its fifteen-season run, with its final episode airing in 2020, the cast would love to revisit the show. In a new interview with CBR promoting The CW’s Walker Season 4, Padalecki also confirmed he is interested in returning to Sam Winchester.

Noting that “it’s weird” not to have any Supernatural-released projects on air, the actor agreed that he would return to the show. “The simple answer to your question is 100%. I will play Sam Winchester again. Jensen will play Dean Winchester again. It’s more of a timing and availability thing.”

Padalecki also explained that he and Jensen Ackles set a timeline to revisit the show. Luckily, his words are encouraging because the timeline is closer than we think: “In hindsight, Jensen and I have always said ‘always,’ if we ever have the option. I think in the last two or three seasons of Supernatural, when we realized somebody might want more, we said ‘2025. In 2020, we’re ending this. Let’s get together in five years and see what Sam and Dean are up to.'”

The Walker actor continued, “I’m going to see him in a few weeks to talk to him about it again. We’ve talked about it a few times. He and I are both champing at the bit to see what these boys have been up to and what else good they can do in this world or the next. I’m excited about it.”

“My only contingency about it is, with Jensen and I being so protective of the show and the characters, the story has to be absolutely right. I don’t just put on flannel and big coat, get in an Impala and say ‘Dean!’ That won’t work for Jared. It needs to have a purpose, as Sam and Dean always did.”

Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles’ Requests Honor Supernatural
Supernatural ended up being more than a show. The cast became family, and some of them even had their family on set as guest appearances. In Padalecki’s case, he met his wife Genevieve Padalecki on set as she played Ruby No. 2. The stars created several campaigns to help fans deal with several issues, including Padalecki’s AKF campaign focused on mental health, the SPNFamily Crisis Support Network, and more. Some of the stories were commemorated in the book Family Don’t End with Blood: How Supernatural Has Changed Lives, featuring 25 essays from the cast members and fans.

After 15 seasons, all the actors moved on to different projects, so a reunion wouldn’t necessarily be a cash grab. However, their request for the right story proves that the two actors care about the fans and the story. Sam and Dean Winchester fought every evil in the show’s 327 episodes, culminating with defeating God in the final season. After all their adventures, there aren’t many monsters out there that might bring the two famous hunters back on the prowl.

Giving Supernatural a five-year break (that feels less given the prequel The Winchesters) might allow the actors and writers to find a way to continue Dean and Sam Winchester’s story. After all, they have to think of a way to continue the series without repeating any of the original’s plots and still honoring the characters. Luckily, the five-year timeline is almost done, and fans might have a Supernatural reunion confirmation soon.
