Lucifer star Aimee Garcia reacts to how “perfect” season 6 moment almost played out differently

Lucifer season 6 spoilers follow.

Lucifer fans have finally found out how the show of angels and demons ends and there was a lot to unpack in the recently-debuted sixth season of the drama.

One particularly satisfying element of the final season was LAPD forensic scientist Ella Lopez finally discovering the truth about the gang, with a series of clues leading to her arriving at Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) and Eve (Inbar Lavi)’s wedding with the news that she has worked everything out about who they really are.

This revelation in episode seven of the final season is followed by a bottle episode, directed by Amenadiel actor DB Woodside, in which Ella finds out even more about her friends and shares her frustrations with them, revealing just how betrayed she feels after being left out for so long.

Actress Aimee Garcia, who plays Ella, has revealed to TVLine that, despite this moment seeming so important, it could have played out very differently if the show hadn’t been granted a sixth and final season by Netflix.

“I loved it,” she said of Ella’s big moment. “Ella is a problem-solver, she has a curious, detective’s mind, so I think it was such a beautiful setup of five seasons, where, in the sixth season, she’s solving the biggest case of her life, which is the end of the world!

“It was the perfect way to find out. I like that no one told her, because that made her feel very isolated from her Scooby Gang. It made her feel very alone, and as a result she got to explore places, as a character, we’ve never seen before.

“It was the perfect way to distinguish her reaction from other characters’. Chloe had to escape and go to Italy and get answers, and Dan spiralled into the depth of craziness, so I think it was so fitting that Ella figured it out on her own and that not only was she not surprised, she was more upset that they didn’t tell her.

“That is so indicative of where her priorities lie, that she was really upset that she was left out, almost more so than the world is ending.”

Garcia and TVLine confirmed that the original plan for Ella’s discovery was for it to be covered in a montage at the end of season five, with Ella finding out the truth after seeing baby Charlie grow wings.

But Garcia is delighted that, with the addition of season six, fans were able to explore Ella’s feelings about finding out the truth in a lot more depth.

“That’s why I’m so excited that we got a sixth season, because instead of every character’s arc being wrapped up in a montage scene at the end of season 5, we got entire episodes,” she said.

The actress was also full of praise for her co-star Woodside for directing Ella’s emotional discovery episode, calling him an “awesome” director.

“I told him this, but I think I did some of my best work as a professional actor under his tutelage, and I am so proud of him,” she said, describing how he had helped her while filming Ella’s first ever sighting of an angel.

“What a payoff to see a character of faith see an angel for the first time, and that was all DB’s direction,” she said. “So, I just want to give a little love and shout out to him.”
