Though all eyes are on Netflix right now after news came out that the platform reportedly lost 200,000 subscribers in just the first quarter of the year, it still goes without saying that it’s the biggest streaming service in the world. And that’s for good reason. The platform has taken so many risks and gone above and beyond with their original content, receiving prestigious awards and amassing huge fanbases. So much so, it’s not surprising they’d choose to develop spin-offs for some of their most popular shows.
From Money Heist to The Witcher, here are the Netflix shows with super exciting spin-offs on the way!
Money Heist spin-off
Money Heist (a.k.a. La Casa De Papel) was one of the most popular Netflix Original shows when it was on. The five seasons received critical acclaim and fans who watched it got totally sucked into the world of robberies and crime. The show chronicles epic heists organized by a character named the Professor (Álvaro Morte), with time-jumps and flashbacks throughout to make things more interesting.
Money Heist became a cultural phenomenon, winning an International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series and making fans dress up in red jumpsuits for Halloween year after year.
Because of its popularity, it didn’t really come as a surprise when the spin-off was announced in Nov. 2021. According to Deadline, the series, titled Berlin, will follow the titular character played by Pedro Alonso. We don’t know when the show will take place in the Money Heist universe, but we know it’s set to premiere on Netflix in 2023. We can’t wait!
The Witcher spin-off
Netflix wasted no time ordering spin-offs for The Witcher, with an animated show called The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf premiering in Aug. 2021 and a prequel miniseries titled The Witcher: Blood Origin on its way. The original series debuted on the streamer in late 2019 and was an instant hit. Fans of the book series of the same name couldn’t wait to get their live-action adaptation and see Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) on the small screen.
The Witcher: Blood Origin takes place 1,200 years before The Witcher, according to Entertainment Weekly, and will focus on a pre-colonized world where the first Witcher is created. Michelle Yeoh, Sophia Brown, and Laurence O’Fuarain, are among the cast members.
