One Piece star Taz Skylar has shared a new update on season 2, confirming they will begin filming not “too long from now”.

The Netflix series, which is based on the manga of the same name, became a big hit when it debuted last summer, with a renewal following swiftly.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy to promote his new film Gassed Up – which he co-wrote and stars in – Skylar was pressed on where things stand with One Piece’s second season.

“I know they’re working on it,” he said. “I know we have general dates so as to when we are going back to South Africa, which isn’t too long from now.”

The actor further teased that the stories for season 2 are “really cool”, elaborating: “I love the way that they’re adapting it, I love what they’re doing with each one of our characters.

“We all as a cast, as a team, as a crew, we are so excited to get back together, because the first time was such a great experience and we made so many great friends.

“And we love South Africa, so we all can’t wait to go back there this year and hopefully knock it out of the park again.”

Back in October, One Piece’s official X (formerly Twitter) account confirmed that writing for the second season was underway, posting a picture of the show’s creative team.

“Meet the writers’ room for season 2,” they said. “We can’t wait to share what adventures we have in store.”

Writer Randy Troy also shared that month: “We’re back in the kitchen, and we have Michelin star chefs cooking up these scripts. I’m talking top-quality ingredients and distinctly familiar flavors. Trust.”

The show follows the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates as they adventure to find the fabled ‘One Piece’ prestige treasure.
