Outlander star Scott Kyle has told how he was savagely beaten after getting caught up in a teenage gang battle.

Kyle, 40, said he was battered with bottles and ended up in hospital after joining a brawl when he was 14.

The Angels Share actor told of his regret at squaring up to a crowd from a rival area in his hometown of Rutherglen.

He said: “At the age of 14 I went to an area in Rutherglen.

“I was having a kiss with a girl when one of the boys came down and said we are fighting the local gang round the corner.

“I said I wasn’t interested but a wee bit of peer pressure and I marched down and got involved in it.

“I ended up getting beaten within an inch of my life off the rival gang. All my so called pals ran away.”

He added: “These guys were young men, 17 to 21, and I got myself into this predicament.

“I should never have gone down there. They were smashing bottles off my head and hitting my knees so I would collapse”.

Kyle was saved by a friend who returned to rescue him and he managed to flee the scene.

He said: “I limped away and a car stopped and a guy asked me if I had been run down.

“I told him I’d been attacked and he got into his car and drove away and left me

“I got a life lesson there and it taught me something about friends.”

Speaking on ex-Celtic star Brian McClair’s Life with Brian podcast, Kyle also told how he would most likely play the role of ex-Ibrox hero Charlie Miller in a film.

Rangers fan Kyle said: “Charlie comes from just up the road from me, a good Glasgow boy, so I’d most likely be him if they were making a biopic on Charlie.

“Maybe Ally McCoist as well, I grew up loving Ally as well.”
