Outlander star Sam Heughan looked completely unrecognisable in a resurfaced image from his BBC debut.
Outlander’s Jamie Fraser is popular with fans for his looks but in a recently rediscovered image, the actor looks completely unrecognisable. The throwback snap from 17 years ago shows Sam Heughan during his BBC debut.
Sam is well known for his role in Starz’s historical drama Outlander, however, the actor looked completely different when he first hit the screens in 2005.
The resurfaced photo is from his debut on the BBC Scottish drama River City, which first aired in 2002.
The fresh-faced Scottish actor landed on the streets of Shieldinch and played footballer Andrew Murray.
His storyline also explored a love story with his on-screen girlfriends and Glaswegian local Kelly-Marie Adams (played by Carmen Pieraccini).
Andrew was the favoured footballer and as his parent’s golden boy his dreams were realised when he became the star of the Scottish Premier League.
Fans of the series saw as he got lost in the fame, money and women – however, he fell for Kelly-Marie.
Born into a rich and arrogant family, his family believed his attraction to Kelly-Marie was a form of rebellion as they considered her too common.
However, the two married and he whisked her away to Monaco to live out her dream of being a WAG to its fullest potential.
However, the high-profile success soon got to him and Andrew couldn’t stop cheating on Kelly-Marie, which forced her to return to Shieldinch.
Eventually, Andrew gave his wife an ultimatum, and she chose to stay in Scotland which bruised his ego.
In retaliation, he immediately got engaged and then sold his story to the papers.
This is a stark difference from Sam’s current role in the historical drama which was set in 1776
As well as a successful career on-screen starring in Doctors and Midsommer murders, Sam also spent years in the theatre including a role in Romeo and Juliet at the Dundee Repertory Theatre.
However, it was his role as Jamie Fraser which shot him into international fame and saw him receive multiple awards including a People’s Choice and Saturn Award.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of season six, which is expected to hit the screens this year.
In 2020, Sam paired up with his co-star Graham McTavish for a documentary miniseries, Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham.
Together to two, travel across Scotland to delve into their heritage by exploring the countries rich and complex history – they cover everything from ghosts, fashion, food and drink.
The series which has been shown across America is available for UK viewers to watch on Amazon.
More recently, Sam praised his on-screen wife Caitriona Balfe, who played Claire Fraser for after it was revealed she filmed season six at the beginning stages of her
He also dropped a major hint about the upcoming instalment and revealed: “When we left Season 5, the whole family is fractured, they are together but Claire still has some healing to do.”
Outlander season 6 premieres on Starz on Sunday, March 6
