Outlander star Sam Heughan has revealed that he received a special gift from Jennifer Lopez’s mom, who is a fan of the hit show.

During a live recording of the Happy Sad Confused podcast filmed at the 92nd Street Y and hosted by Josh Horowitz, the actor said he met the singer’s mom when he appeared on an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“At Fallon, who else was on the show? Did you meet anybody over there?” Horowitz asked.

“Well, I did meet a very, very wonderful woman. J.Lo wasn’t there, “Heughan said, teasing the audience before showing off the gift he received, which was a cross necklace.

“Lupe, J.Lo’s mom, who is in the audience I believe, I hope she is. Thank you so much Lupe if you’re here, if you’re not she lied to me. Thank you, I got this wonderful present. Um, yes, very, very lucky, so thank you, Lupe.”

When asked if he was yet to meet Lopez, Heughan revealed he hadn’t, adding: “Not yet.”

Lopez’s mother, Guadalupe “Lupe” Rodriguez, has appeared in the audience on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon multiple times, even when her daughter wasn’t a guest.

“[She] loves the show [and] comes even when Jennifer’s not on, she just comes to watch,” Fallon revealed during an appearance on Andy Cohen Live. “So we put a plaque for her. I love seeing her. She makes me feel so happy. I love my Lupe.”

Heughan rose to fame playing Jamie Fraser in the hit series Outlander, with the final episode of Season 7 having aired on January 10. The show is based on the historical fantasy novels by author Diana Gabaldon and began airing in 2014. It follows Claire Randall (Caitríona Balfe) after she is transported back in time from 1945 to 1740s Scotland, where she meets and falls in love with Jamie.

The penultimate season of Outlander was broken into two parts. The first half of the season aired on Starz from June to August 2023 and the second half premiered on November 22, 2024. Heughan reflected on the last two episodes of Season 7 during his Happy Sad Confused appearance.

“This might be my favorite two episodes of a finale. I think they’re really beautifully shot and [there are] so many amazing Outlander moments in them um you know from—don’t give it away too much—I mean, Jamie is essentially going to lose Claire and for me as an actor, it was just you know so much to play, so much emotion,” he told Horowitz.

“Jamie’s always so in control and knows what to do and he just, like, begs everyone. He begs the people around him, he begs God, he’s just distraught and does some weird s***, you know, writing in blood and Claire’s blood.”

The actor added: “It’s so powerful, these are huge Outlander moments and I think that’s what makes the show so surprising and still so engaging because you just don’t expect it.”

Season 8 will be Outlander’s final installment, with production having ended on September 27, 2024. The showrunners explained that they discussed the show’s conclusion with Gabaldon beforehand.

“We are ending [the show] the way we are, we just wanted to be respectful of not ending it the way maybe the way she [Gabaldon] would,” executive producer Maril Davis said at New York Comic Con in October.

So what did Gabaldon think about it? “It was interesting… I was not upset by it,” she said. “It was not something I wrote, so I’m very objective about it. It was well done, I think it will work very nicely.”
