After moving to Edinburgh at age 12 to attend James Gillespie’s High School, Sam Heughan went on to become one of Scotland’s biggest actors – but it could’ve all been very different if he’d followed his childhood dream.
Sam Heughan is one of Scotland’s biggest actors, but if he’d followed his festive childhood dreams things could’ve been very dfiferent.
The actor, who attended James Gillespie’s High School in the capital, rose to fame playing Jamie Fraser in Outlander. Most recently he starred in The Couple Next Door with Eleanor Tomlinson, reports the Daily Record.
On an interview with Graham Norton on Virgin Radio, the 43-year-old opened up on his “inner geek”, and admitted that perhaps
He said: “My first Christmas present that I remember, honestly I’m going to reveal my inner geek here. I was actually probably a teenager.
“Obviously, my mum bought me loads of great stuff, but my uncle came for Christmas and he bought me a board game, one that I’d always wanted, Hero Quest. You know, elves, dwarves, orcs and all that sort of stuff. I think that’s why when I grew up I wanted to be an elf myself.”
Sam will be back on set filming for the final fling of Outlander next year as it bows out after a decade on screen. As the Daily Record previously reported, the star has said that he will be devastated when the historical time-travel drama ends but he’s looking forward to new opportunities in the future.
It’s not quite time for fans to wallow about the impending ‘Droughtlander’ they face as the second part of series seven is still to air, and it’s thought it’ll drop early in 2024. But he’s revealed some important dates which could give a clue as to when the last season will hit screens.
Sam told Graham: “We wrap at the end of the year, in October, and that will be it.”
Opening up on his mixed feelings about the end of the show, he added: “We’ve had fittings already and I realised it’s the last time I’ll be having fittings, I started getting emotional.
“It’s been incredible, it’s changed my life, it’s been an amazing journey and it’s going to be bittersweet.”
