Outlander season 6 has been filming on location in Scotland but has the release of Outlander series 6 been delayed?
Outlander fans were ecstatic to hear Outlander series six is coming to screens later this year. For the past few months, filming has been underway in Scotland but fans are worried the release will be delayed as a result of an ongoing on-set pay dispute.
Has Outlander series 6 been delayed?
At the moment, there is good news for fans of Outlander.
Despite an ongoing pay dispute behind the scenes, there has been no official announcement the release date of Outlander series six has been delayed.
The sixth outing does not yet have an official release date, but judging by the release dates of previous seasons a September 2021 or November 2021 release date may be on the cards.
After enduring what has been a lengthy droughtlander, many fans have been worried after reports surfaced online about an on-set pay dispute with the crew filming the series.
At the moment, filming for Outlander series six is taking place at an old factory in Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire.
The Times has reported The Broadcasting, Entertainment, Communications and Theatre Union (BECTU) who represent the crew of Outlander has accused Left Bank Productions of changing wages and conditions.
According to the report, BECTU claims staff have been asked to sign revised contracts, with holiday pay and overtime payments being withheld if they refuse.
A BECTU spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “While members do enjoy working on Outlander, which has been a great boost for the industry in Scotland, it has presented its fair share of concerns for members in terms of Fair Work practices.
“Crew have previously raised the issue of excessively long working hours which has still not been fully addressed by Left Bank.
“In one department, crew are working 13% longer hours and receiving around 12% less pay than industry standards. Since the restart, after the initial Covid lockdown, Outlander has refused to supply socially distanced busses to transport crew from their workplace to locations, so crew have had to use their own cars at their own expense to get from their workplace to these locations.
“All that is on top of the current threat to withhold money due to our members.
“Left Bank need to recognise that there is a growing range of issues that they can no longer ignore or indeed attempt to bully staff into submission over.”
Left Bank Pictures said in their own statement, reported by The Scottish Sun: “We are confident that all terms for crew on Outlander are consistent with prevailing industry practices.
“We are proud to have a strong and collaborative working relationship with all of our crews and their fair treatment is of utmost importance to us.”
The sixth series of Outlander is based on the sixth Outlander novel by Diana Gabaldon, A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
The last time fans saw Jamie and Claire, political unrest was brewing in the colonies as the Frasers tried to live peacefully in the foothills of North Carolina.
In A Breath of Snow and Ashes, Jamie and Claire face the American Revolution head-on and face specific threats to Frasers Ridge in North Carolina.
Jamie finds himself torn between remaining loyal to the oath he swore to the British crown after the Jacobite rising or fighting for his families freedom in the new world which his daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and son-in-law Roger (Richard Rankin) have assured him of.
Also, in the sixth book, Claire’s nursing skills raise suspicions of witchcraft and even murder.
Outlander fans already know the Frasers will meet the Christie family in the sixth series.
Gangs in London’s Mark Lewis Jones will take on the role of patriarch Tom Christie, alongside Versailles star Alexander Vlahos as his son Allan Christie and My Left Nut’sJessica Reynolds as his daughter, Malva Christie.
In the books, the Christie family pose a huge threat to the Frasers, especially when Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds) claims Jamie is the father of her child.
In reality, the father of Malva’s baby is her stepbrother Tom but she ends up murdered before the truth can come to the surface.
In a shocking twist, Claire is arrested for Malva’s murder which will certainly make for some dramatic storylines in the series.
Prior to publication, we put the allegations made by BECTU to Left Bank who have not responded
Outlander seasons 1 to 5 are streaming on Starz now.
