Fans are more than ready for the second part of Outlander season seven, but some might be upset to know that some of their beloved characters won’t make an appearance.
While Sam Heughan’s Jamie Fraser and Caitriona Balfe’s Claire Fraser are obviously safe, there are four characters, so far, who are definitely not returning for various reasons.
Some absences occur because of the storylines in Diana Gabaldon book series.
Others are due to scheduling conflicts.
The second half of Outlander season seven has already wrapped filming, post-production has begun, and fans can expect it to arrive in 2024, just without some characters.
Work is now starting on season eight after the writers’ strike dispute was resolved.
Marsali and Fergus
The first is a double whammy. The two biggest characters not returning in Outlander season 7B are Marsali and Fergus.
Outlander boss Maril Davis has confirmed the couple will not be in any of Outlander season seven.
Marsali Fraser star Lauren Lyle and Cesar Domboy, who plays Fergus Fraser, were busy with other projects when the second half of the season was filming. So, Davis and the other producers had a discussion with the two actors about their characters’ storylines. Which leads to a big question about Claire’s return to America.
In the books, Marsali is the reason for Claire’s return, sort of. Marsali writes to Laoghaire about health problems with Henri-Christian.
Laoghaire begs Claire to save her grandson, making a deal to release Jamie from his alimony, not realising Claire would have anyway. So, Claire and Young Ian cross back over without Jamie.
Without Marsali and Gergus, how will Claire do this?
Husband and wife Arch (Hugh Ross) and Murdina Bug (Sarah Collier) have played great side characters since season five. However, their roles became even more important in the first half of season seven.
They stole the French gold from Jocasta Cameron (played by Maria Doyle Kennedy) and hid it under the house. They were moving it to another hiding place, but then Claire and Jamie’s house burnt down.
Young Ian (John Bell) killed Murdina Bug and Arch quickly planned his revenge. So, Arch will have a big part to play when the hit Starz series returns.
Wendigo Donner (Brennan Martin), another time traveller, who Claire meets in season five, will also not appear in the second half of Outlander season seven. He went to the Big House to get some gemstones so that he could return home.
Wendigo had a match in his hands just as the fumes spread around the house during the fire.
Jamie got everyone out, but Wendigo perished in the blaze. He doesn’t come up in the books again, so that storyline is finished.
