Sam heughan has been open and honest about his “bittersweet” feelings about the eighth season of Outlander.
The Scots star will be back on set filming for the final fling of the hugely popular historical time-travel drama next year as it bows out after a decade on screen.
As we’ve previously reported, the 43-year-old has said that he will be devastated when the show ends but he’s looking forward to new opportunities in the future.
It’s not quite time for fans to wallow about the impending ‘Droughtlander’ they face as the second part of series seven is still to air, and it’s thought it’ll drop early in 2024.
But, speaking on Graham Norton’s Virgin Radio show at the weekend, the Jamie Fraser actor revealed some important dates which could give a clue as to when the last season will hit screens.
Sam said: “We wrap at the end of the year, in October, and that will be it.”
Opening up on his mixed feelings about the end of the show, he added: “We’ve had fittings already and I realised it’s the last time I’ll be having fittings, I started getting emotional.
“It’s been incredible, it’s changed my life, it’s been an amazing journey and it’s going to be bittersweet.”
Sam, who was born in Dumfries and Galloway but grew up in Edinburgh, has recently been setting pulses racing with his appearance in Channel 4’s smash ht thriller The Couple Next Door, which is the channel’s most streamed drama of 2023.
He told Norton he’s got some good advice on how to deal with his new chapter from co-star and former Poldark actress Eleanor Tomlinson on life after a long-running role as he revealed: “She said ‘you’ll probably need therapy and a very strong drink’.”
And the star revealed he’ll be making sure he has some keepsakes from his time on set with the likes of his good pals Caitriona Balfe and Graham McTavish.
Sam joked: “I’m going to steal as much as I can, if it’s not tied down, it’s going in the back of my car.”
