Outlander star Caitriona Balfe hints season 7 will be end of Starz series ‘A nice time frame’

Outlander star Caitriona Balfe has got fans of the Starz series worried after hinting it could come to an end after season seven.

Fans were disappointed to hear Outlander season six would be much shorter with only eight episodes due to the series being hit with setbacks from Covid. However, they were assured by the cast and crew the seventh outing would be much longer and well worth the wait. Now, Claire Fraser star Caitriona Balfe has hinted it could all come to an end after season seven airs.

Outlander fans have just under two months to wait until season six drops on Starz.

Production for the seventh outing is set to begin later in the year for an extended run of episodes.

In the meantime, both lead actors Caitriona and Jamie Fraser star Sam Heughan, have been featuring in other projects.

Sam is working on the second series of Men in Kilts with co-star Graham McTavish while Caitriona is promoting Belfast.

As the pair become hot property both in the UK and Hollywood, it’s likely they will have less time to focus on Outlander.

Now, Caitriona has hinted, when it gets to the 10 year anniversary of the series, they could call it a day.

“We will have hit the almost 10-year mark by the end of that, which feels like a nice kind of time frame, but we don’t know,” she told Vanity Fair.

“Those decisions are far above my pay grade.”

Caitriona is hopeful that before the series does wrap up, she will get a chance to direct.

She and Sam were made executive producers during season five but she wants more involvement in the show.

Unfortunately, the actress isn’t sure she’ll be given the opportunity, explaining: “It’s something I’ve been talking about doing on the show.

“It’s falling a little on deaf ears.”

Caitriona explained directing on Outlander would have “been the perfect chance for me in a very safe space”.

She has a close relationship with the camera crew and is always asking questions about how they set up scenes.

“They’re really always super helpful in giving me as much information as I want,” she said.

“It’s a shame, but out of my hands.”

Ahead of season six’s premiere, fans can rematch series one to five on StarzPlay, the premium international streaming service from STARZ.

Outlander stars Caitriona, Sam, Sophie SkeltonB and Richard Rankin wrapped filming the sixth season in Scotland late last spring and will return for the green lit seventh season.

Fans will also meet the mysterious Christie family who are set to cause trouble on Fraser’s Ridge.

Outlander season 6 premier on Sunday 6 March at 9pm on Starz.
