Outlander star Caitriona Balfe has confessed she’s “still wrapping her head around” her character Claire Fraser’s actions as the hit Starz series gears up for the second half of its seventh season this month.
Caitriona, who has portrayed the lead character for over ten years, also revealed that filming scenes for the upcoming episodes proved to be some of her most challenging work yet.
The actress shared these behind-the-scenes revelations as fans eagerly anticipate the return of Outlander in less than a fortnight.
Viewers will witness Claire (played by Caitriona) and her on-screen husband Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) dive back into the action-packed historical drama, which is adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s acclaimed book series.
In an interview with TV Insider, Caitriona opened up about the startling choices her character makes in the latter part of the show’s current season.
“It was honestly one of the most difficult episodes I filmed in a while,” she disclosed. “[I’m still] wrapping my head around some of the stuff that came from the book that Claire does.”
While keeping the details under wraps, she assured: “I think I made it believable.”
This comes on the heels of Executive Producer Maril Davis’ caution to fans, hinting at intense developments ahead.
During a recent appearance at the Paley Center for Media, Davis remarked: “I mean this is such a rollercoaster. [Season] 7b is such a rollercoaster. I always say this every season – I feel like I say, ‘Buckle your seatbelts.’
“But this one in particular is an emotional rollercoaster, so I think people should prepare to be, kind of… wrung out.”
The latest teaser for season 7b of the gripping series reveals Claire and Jamie facing yet another heart-wrenching separation, with a scene even hinting at Jamie’s death as Lord John Grey (David Berry) seems to deliver the devastating news to Claire that her beloved is no more.
Yet, Claire remains undeterred, firmly responding: “I would feel it in my heart if it had stopped, mine would stop too.”
