Outlander actress Caitriona Balfe didn’t quite know how to react when a dental appointment turned into a somewhat “terrifying” experience.
With a plethora of Diana Gabaldon books and the Starz drama currently in the middle of its seventh season, Outlander has gained a dedicated worldwide fanbase.
And in turn, so have its stars Sam Heughan who portrays Highlander Jamie Fraser and Caitriona Balfe who is behind Second World War nurse Claire Fraser.
So even when they are not in full costume or working on the time travel show, Heughan and Balfe are often recognised by fans in their everyday lives.
Irish actress Balfe opened up on one particularly odd experience while promoting the 2022 drama Belfast with co-star Jamie Dornan.
Balfe and Dornan were invited to play a game of “Knowing Me Knowing You” with Elle magazine, talking about themselves as well as their fellow Belfast actors.
One of the questions was on the “weirdest fan encounters” they’ve experienced over the years.
This was when the 44-year-old Claire Fraser star opened up: “I mean, I just talked about one the other day.
“I was getting put under for a dental procedure and the anesthesiologist was a massive, massive Outlander fan.
“And she came with a cup and then started to sing the theme tune to me as I was going under so that was definitely a strange experience.”
Upon hearing her anecdote, Dornan commented: “That’s terrifying”, with her agreeing: “Yeah it was interesting.”
Dornan continued to tease Balfe, asking: “Did she take photographs of you and stuff while you were asleep – with the mug?”
She laughed “probably” before jokingly mimicking the fan posing next to her, mug in hand, as Balfe was unconscious.
While fans may be eager for the return of Outlander to the small screen, there is still a long way to go before it makes a comeback.
Season seven, part two, aired in early 2023 but with delays caused by the Hollywood actors and writers’ strike, this put production back by several months.
So unfortunately, Outlander won’t be back for season seven, part two, until sometime in November.
