Outlander main actor star Sam Heughan has lent his voice to support Anas Sarwar’s disgust following a Home Office raid in Glasgow’s Southside.
The UK Border Agency arrived at a property on Kenmure Street in Pollokshields shortly before 10am this morning (Thursday).
Following their arrival they were surrounded by over 100 people who tried to stop the van from the Home Office departing from the scene.
Following the incident Leader of the Scottish labour party Anas Sanwar wrote: ‘I am disgusted by the Home Office raids in Pollokshields.”
He added: “It is particularly unacceptable that this is happening during a pandemic, in an area that has a spike in cases and on the day of Eid.
“We need an immigration policy that is based on human dignity & human rights.”
After seeing his Tweet, actor Sam decided to show his support for the MP’s statement and retweeted it, saying ‘Agreed’.
Sam has spoken in defence of immigrants before, saying immigration ‘is not a crime’.

Last year when someone suggested he ‘invite the illegals to your country’ he replied: “Illegals??” I believe you’re talking about people. Human beings. Your country used to? In fact was built on immigrants.”
Nicola Sturgeon also condemned the action by the Home Office saying: “As constituency MSP, I am deeply concerned by this action by the Home Office, especially today in the heart of a community celebrating Eid.
“My office is making urgent enquiries and stands ready to offer any necessary assistance to those detained.”
