Outlander star Sam Heughan has shared a selection of his favourite Scottish snacks and makes one genius suggestion.
The Balmaclellan-born actor, 43, is best known for his role as Highland warrior Jamie Fraser in Outlander alongside his on-screen wife Claire played by Caitriona Balfe. In a new interview with First We Feast, Sam takes viewers through a selection of his favourite snacks with some Scots favourites thrown in for good measure.
First up, Sam chose popcorn with M&Ms mixed throughout but quickly recoiled noting how salty the popcorn was. He said: “In the UK, we have sweet and salty.” He added: “You can share them while you’re in the cinema. You can get these little bits of chocolate goodness.”
The second clip shows the Scots star smashing a Tunnock’s teacake with his fist, leaving a big portion of the gooey marshmallow covering his hand. He tells viewers: “You can crush it. Tastes like heaven. Like you’re on a really fluffy bed. Soft marshmallow. Sweet milk chocolate.”
The next snack Sam shares with viewers is yogurt mixed with protein powder, which he makes quite a mess on-screen with. He says: “Have you noticed, though, when putting protein powder into anything, it just goes absolutely everywhere.”

Sam continues pouring himself a dram of his Sassenach whisky, before the video cuts to him opening a bottle of Irn-Bru with a big cheer. However, the bottle sprays everywhere as he mutters: “Oh Jesus Christ.”
He added: “Once, when they tried to change the recipe in Scotland and reduce the sugar, there was a national outcry because we like our sugar in Scotland.”
His final favourite snack was, of course, shortbread baked into the shape of Scottish Terrier dogs. Sam offers a suggestion to make the snack even more Scottish: “You get these cute little Highland dogs. They should make like, a Loch Ness Monster shortbread. That’d be pretty cool.”
