Outlander star Sam Heughan has taken to Instagram to tell his followers that he will be taking part in My Peak Challenge’s Seventh Annual Munro Step Challenge, to raise money for blood cancer research

Outlander’s Jamie Fraser, played by Sam Heughan, has been praised by fans for his charity work away from the popular Starz series.

Heughan took to Instagram to announce his participation in My Peak Challenge’s Seventh Annual Munro Step Challenge this Sunday, a fundraising event for blood cancer research.

The challenge invites hundreds of participants to walk the coastlines of six continents, with all profits going to Blood Cancer UK.

On Instagram, Heughan told his followers: “We’re doing the coast-to-coast challenge, we’re getting our steps in.”

Ahead of the challenge starting on September 1st, the Outlander star was already breaking a sweat.

Fans expressed their admiration for his ongoing charity efforts in the comments section.

One fan responded: “Sam you are so sweet, wow training this is wonderful you are admirable,”.

Another commented: “Thanks Sam. Because you inspire the person to do something for the other. This world will be fantastic if all of us do what we can to help another life. Like you do or in other ways. When a life supports another life all the world change.”

A third added: “Amazing initiative Sam. You are a spectacular coach and also always amazing.”

Many fans have also joined in, possibly inspired by Sam’s fitness and charity work when he’s not on screen as Claire Fraser’s (played by Caitriona Balfe) protector in the 18th Century.

“My favourite challenge of the year and LOVE this year’s shirt,” one participant shared.

And a third fan declared: “Yes! I’m ready for the challenge! Let’s go! “.

Sam is managing to fit his charity work around filming for the eighth and final season of Outlander, which is currently being shot in Scotland.

Fans won’t have to wait too long for the show’s return, with eight more episodes of season seven set to air this November.
