We’re breaking down each season of the hit TV series and seeing just how they rank against each other, according to the Rotten Tomatoes’ Audience scores.

Based on Diana Gabaldon‘s best-selling book series, the popular Starz show follows the story of Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a World War II nurse who mysteriously finds herself transported back in time to 18th-century Scotland. There, she becomes entangled in the tumultuous events of the Jacobite uprising and falls in love with the dashing Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

Season six of the show is based on “A Breath of Snow and Ashes.”

Jamie and Claire are still in North Carolina, navigating politics in and around their back country abode. Their daughter, Brianna, and her husband, Roger, time traveled back to modern times for the safety of their children.

Season 7, part 1 of the show finished airing in 2023.

Here’s the synopsis: In order to protect what they’ve built, the Frasers have to navigate the Revolutionary War. They learn that sometimes to defend what you love, you have to leave it behind.

Season four of the show took on the fourth book, “Drums of Autumn”. The episodes find Jamie and Claire making their way to America to build a life in rural North Carolina.

Season five of the show has the Frasers in America, where they are on the cusp of the Revolutionary War. It’s based upon the fifth book, “The Fiery Cross.”

3. Season 2

Season two of the show adapts the second book, as Claire and Jamie head to France, where they are thrown into the lavish world of French society all while trying to infiltrate the Jacobite rebellion.

2. Season 3 – TIE

Season three of the show shows Claire back in 1948, where she is pregnant with Jamie’s child, and suddenly reunited with her modern husband, Frank Randall.

It’s based on the third book, “Voyager”.

Season one of the show kicked off the series, and was based on the very first book in the series, where Claire was transported to 1743 and into a mysterious world where her freedom and life are threatened. It’s there that she meets and marries Jamie.
