Rick and Morty has released a new trailer for season 7, giving fans a first proper listen to the show’s new voice actors.

It comes after co-creator and actor Justin Roiland – who voiced the roles of the two titular protagonists for the animated show’s first six seasons – had his contract with Adult Swim terminated earlier this year following domestic battery charges.

The trailer gives fans a glimpse at the interdimensional storylines set to come when the series returns next month, with Rick and Morty’s new voices sounding very similar to before – though who exactly is playing the roles remains unknown for now.

Following Roiland’s charges, Adult Swim’s senior VP of communications Marie Moore confirmed in January: “Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland.”

The charges were later dropped in March due to “insufficient evidence”.

Roiland was also dropped from roles in animated shows Solar Opposites and Koala Man, with Dan Stevens taking over his role in the former.

Rick and Morty executive producer Steve Levy recently opened up about changes for season 7, telling the LA Times last month: “We had a rug pulled from underneath us.

“The only people we could lean on were each other. It would have been very easy to just say: ‘I’m done and I don’t want to do anything with this show anymore’.

“But this show is created by this team – this family of incredibly hardworking people – and we are going push through and show the world that we aren’t going to miss a beat. The work that we’re doing across the board has only gotten better.

“When the new season comes out, we’ll focus on how amazing it all turned out. We hope the fans will realise that this is the same old show, maybe even better!”
