Riverdale season five may not be over just yet, but the show’s creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is teasing fans that season six might just be the most dramatic yet.
The CW series came back from hiatus last month and will wrap up its fifth season on October 6. However, production on the next episodes has now commenced.
Given that the current season has already jumped forward seven years in time (after the characters’ high school graduation) and featured two people going missing, some prison escapees and a search for a freeway killer, it’s hard to see how things could get much more intense.
However, according to Aguirre-Sacasa, we haven’t seen nothing yet.
Alongside first-look teaser artwork for season six, showing seriously light and dark sides to a tree, Aguirre-Sacasa posted on Instagram: “Forces are gathering for the ultimate battle between Good and Evil as the cameras begin to roll on #Riverdale Season Six. But who will stand on which side? And who will live, and who will die? Everything has been a prelude to this. 🔥🌪🍔⌛️☠️💍👠👨🏼🤝👨🏽🎰🎢🚧🚑🎭🥩👭🏽👼🏽🦸🏻♂️💄💋💰💎⚰️”
Judging from the emojis Aguirre-Sacasa included in his post, we can expect the new season to include a fire, a tornado, an engagement, a break-up, a baby, stolen money and, naturally, a death.
No doubt once season five finishes up, fans will have a slightly better idea of what all this may entail.
But the fact that Aguirre-Sacasa is describing the previous seasons as ‘all a prelude’ to what’s coming up, we can only expect the show to reach new dramatic heights.
Riverdale airs on The CW in the US. In the UK, you can stream via Netflix.
