Riverdale is in the midst of its sixth season of twists and turns but it might be approaching its conclusion – or at least that’s what star Cole Sprouse thinks could happen soon.
In a recent interview with GQ, the Jughead Jones actor said that he and the rest of the cast of The CW’s teen mystery drama are ready to “wrap it up with a bow”.
Fret not, as there hasn’t been an official confirmation of the show ending yet and a seventh season is on the way.
Speaking of his work on the show, Sprouse also explained that he doesn’t have much creative control, which is something he seems to desire to explore more.
“I’m not a creative force behind [Riverdale],” he said, adding that a typical day on set sees him and his co-stars being given the script relatively last minute. “We show up, receive the scripts often the day of, and we’re asked to shoot.”
The actor then revealed he has turned down an offer to direct an episode of the show, aware that he might have had to readjust his vision to meet the network’s expectations.
He wasn’t the first to be asked to step behind the camera, as his co-star Mädchen Amick, who plays Alice Smith on Riverdale, helmed two chapters in season four and five.
Sprouse’s co-stars Camila Mendes and Lili Reinhart, who play Veronica Lodge and Betty Cooper respectively, have recently echoed his feelings about the show potentially wrapping up sooner rather than later.
“I think we’ll go through season 7. Here’s hoping. We’ll see,” Mendes said, while Reinhart also suggested that season seven could be “the last one”.
Riverdale airs on The CW in the US. In the UK, you can stream via Netflix.
