Outlander star Sam Heughan has opened up about his new show The Couple Next Door – a drama about swingers, that he thinks is a perfect follow-up to Outlander.
Heughan is best known for playing Jamie Fraser in the historical epic Outlander. However, he is now starring in a hot new drama that is sure to get pulses racing.
The Couple Next Door follows Evie and Pete (Harry Potter’s Alfred Enoch) who move next door to another couple – Danny and Becka – and build a new friendship.
However, Evie and Danny (Heughan) share a night of passion that leaves consequences for all involved.
Speaking to Digital Spy and other press, Heughan opened up about his excitement for the show and why he thinks it’s the perfect series to do after Outlander.
“I’ve been working on my other show Outlander for a decade, 10 years, and I think it’s hard to find roles that are perhaps not only different but also fit into a time period. I just finished shooting the last season of Outlander. So this fit perfectly,” Heughan said.
“Also, having worked with Dries [Vos, director], you think I would never work with him again, but I’m a sucker. No, I loved working with him on Suspect and working with Channel Four and EagleEye.”
He continued: “And for me, I jumped at the chance when I read the scripts, and I just loved this character. Very different to what I’ve played before. He’s a rather ambiguous man. You know, on the surface, you think he’s one thing and by the end of the show, perhaps you may feel differently about him. So a great opportunity.”
