Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has shared a pretty disappointing update for the release of season two.

Fans were hooked on the Korean survival drama when it dropped on Netflix back in September 2021, and it has left them eager for more ever since. Luckily for us, a second season was officially confirmed earlier this year, but it has left viewers with one question: when will it be back?

Speaking to Variety, Hwang revealed that he hopes season two will launch on Netflix by the end of 2024.

The creator also recently said that the script for the new episodes hadn’t even been written yet.

“It’s here. Not on the page, it’s here,” he said, pointing at his head. “Everything is secret. I cannot tell anything.”

As they say, though, good things come to those who wait. After all, it took Hwang nearly a decade to produce the final script for season one of the record-breaking series. He started writing Squid Game back in 2009, keeping the script on his hard drive for years until it was pitched to Netflix in 2016.

“I knew that maybe in the near future the right time for this time for the material,” he added to Variety. “I waited and waited, and I made like three features.”

Before season two comes out, we might see the release of another project by Hwang, which is currently in the works – a movie called Killing Old People Club. He teased that it will be “another controversial film” and “more violent than Squid Game”.

Squid Game season 1 is streaming now on Netflix. Season 2 has been confirmed.
