Stranger Things fans have been given a huge update on the eagerly-anticipated fifth season.

The fifth and final season of the hit Netflix show is currently in production, bringing together Gaten Matarazzo, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, and Caleb McLaughlin for one last trip to the Upside Down.

It has been two years since season four hit the streaming service, with fans constantly on high alert for any new updates.

Co-creator Ross Duffer has shared some new information and hinted at when it could possibly hit our screens, posting a photo of the cast and crew on set to his Instagram page.

Alongside the picture, he wrote: “Week 24. Happy halfway to the best cast and crew ever.”

The post also included a video of Mike Wheeler actor Finn Wolfhard placing a marble into a jar, which the team appear to use to mark how many days they have been working on the show.

When asked how it feels to be the one to place the milestone marble, Finn laughed that it was “exactly the same”.

Some followers suggested that this could mean season five of Stranger Things could be released as soon as January 2025, if the production is now halfway to being complete.

It comes after Maya Hawke, who plays Robin Buckley in the show, addressed the “movie-length” episodes set to come.

“Our showrunners, Matt and Ross [Duffer], take a lot of responsibility. They’re very intense about the quality of the continued writing,” she told Penn Badgley’s Podcrushed podcast.

“It takes a long time to write each season, and it takes a long time to shoot them – we’re basically making eight movies. The episodes are very long.”
