Stranger Things actor Sean Astin is to join ABC’s The Conners, the spin-off to Roseanne.

Astin, who played the much-loved character Bob in Stranger Things season two and Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings, will star in the comedy The Conners as Tyler. Tyler is set to be a potential romantic match for Becky (Lecy Goranson).

According to TV Line, Astin will make his debut appearance in the show on April 19 in an episode where Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) and Louise (Katey Sagal) try to help Dan’s (John Goodman) eldest daughter meet a new guy.

Images shared by TVLine show Becky and Tyler seemingly hitting it off at the Lobo Lounge, with the pair discussing their joint desire to find someone special while cutting out the small talk and ‘getting to know each other’ phase.

A short teaser for the episode shows the two bonding over their disdain for the early stages of dating, Becky even says: “I cannot bear the thought of going on 100 first dates to find someone I actually connect with.”

Tyler replies: “I wish I could just fast forward. “Be sitting next to my wife at my kid’s basketball game, making each other laugh by making fun of the other parents. And then going to Applebee’s and splitting two desserts and pretending it’s only half the calories.”

“Yeah or lying in bed watching romcoms with the sound down and making up our own dialogue,” Becky bats back.

The clip ends before too much is given away, but the pair seem to have a mutual love of the romcom When Harry Met Sally.

Could this be the start of something beautiful between the pair?

Little else is known about Tyler, but with Becky not having the best luck with romance, fans can only hope The Goonies star makes a positive impression.

The Conners airs on ABC in the US.
