Josh Brolin has addressed a possible return for Thanos in Avengers: Secret Wars, aka Avengers 6.
Set for release on May 7, 2027, the upcoming film in Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will serve as the finale of The Multiverse Saga.
Speaking to Collider at New York Comic Con about the possibility of returning to the MCU for the sixth Avengers film, Brolin kept his cards close to his chest while leaving the door open for Thanos to make a comeback.
Explaining that he was open to reprising the role, Brolin said he would only return as the Mad Titan if the circumstances were right. He also said that he would work with directors Anthony and Joe Russo again if they asked him to.
Brolin said: “I’m not kidding — There’s a thing with playing Thanos. It’s like, ‘Oh, they’re gonna bring Thanos back.’ It’s like Sicario; it has to be right. It’s like Ryan Reynolds and I talking about Taylor Swift and we should be talking about Deadpool 4. But we go back and forth. Again, it’s what in his mind fits, what in my mind fits. Thanos has to fit if you’re going to bring him back. I would do anything that the Russos wanted me to do.”
Avengers: Secret Wars will follow on from the events of Avengers: Doomsday, which is set for release in 2026. The Russo brothers have returned to direct both Avengers 5 and 6.
Back in July, it was revealed that Avengers 5 had received a brand new title along with the shocking news that Robert Downey Jr was returning to the MCU as Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom, in Avengers: Doomsday.
“New mask, same task,” Downey Jr said after his identity was revealed on stage. “I like playing complicated characters.”
