The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco has reunited with Jim Parsons at his new project.
Cuoco, who played Penny on the long-running sitcom, shared a photo with Sheldon actor Parsons after a performance of his new Broadway show, a revival of the play Our Town.
In her (now-expired) Instagram Story, Cuoco accompanied the photo of the two sharing a hug with a caption that read: “Reunited. I surprised him. Go see Jim Parsons in @ourtownbroadway! It is beyond!”
Parsons had been providing narration in-character for Big Bang prequel series Young Sheldon, and reprised his role in the flesh for the show’s finale.
“[It was] very weird [but] also very beautiful,” he said about his on-camera return. “The Big Bang Theory was always a live-audience show and Young Sheldon is a single-camera show, and I got to do it with Mayim [Bialik] – we both played Sheldon and Amy from the series.
“To do it in that situation, it was just different enough that it wasn’t creepy. Like going, ‘What are we doing here again?!’ Instead, it was really sweet. It felt like the nicest little coda to the whole experience, and I was very grateful that they asked us to do it.”
The Big Bang universe is continuing, with latest spin-off Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage premiering in the US last month.
As for a revival featuring the main cast of the original show, Parsons isn’t so sure it would or should happen, calling it “lightning in a bottle” but adding that he would “never say never”.
Meanwhile, season 2 of Cuoco’s Based on a True Story recently started airing as well.
