The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki is working with Will & Grace boss John Quaintance to develop new sitcom AOK, based in a 90s internet start-up company’s offices.

According to Deadline, the series is “about a group of young and mostly idealistic entrepreneurs who work together, hang out together, and fall in and out of love with each other, all while trying to change their world, and holding up a mirror to ours”.

“This specific period of time is personal to many, including all of us involved so it’s important to make the show feel as authentic as possible,” Galecki said.

“We are excited to reimagine the 90s sitcom through a modern lens as John has created something truly special. We hope to surprise people in a familiar place with characters you will fall in love with.”

John Quaintance is the series creator, director and executive producer, having worked on Will & Grace from 2017 to 2020. Galecki will also be executive producing, through his company Alcide Bava Productions.

Galecki played Dr Leonard Hofstadter in The Big Bang Theory from 2006 to 2019, when the long-running series finished. The show ended after Jim Parsons, who played Leonard’s best friend Dr Sheldon Cooper, decided season 12 would be his last and show creator Chuck Lorre didn’t want the show to continue without one of its main characters.

However, in 2018, Galecki had hinted to reporters that he was happy for season 12 to potentially be the last, telling reporters at the TCA Winter Press Tour: “The only manner in which the cast has discussed wrapping [the show] has been that we’re all going to be very sad when that day comes… But I think at this point everyone’s very comfortable with 12 seasons being a good time to go home and see our families.”
