Former The Big Bang Theory cast member Melissa Rauch is heading back to TV with a new lead role.
The star is set to appear in a reboot of the legal sitcom, Night Court. Deadline broke the news, whilst also confirming that original star John Larroquette is reprising his character Reinhold Daniel Fielding Elmore.
Night Court aired on NBC between 1984 and ’92. It centred on the night shifts at a Manhattan municipal court, led by Harry Anderson’s unorthodox judge Harold ‘Harry’ T Stone.
Rauch (who will also executive produce the reboot) stars as the ‘unapologetic optimist judge’ Abby Stone – Harry’s daughter – who follows in her late father’s footsteps in attempting to bring order to the chaos of the court’s night shift.
The new Night Court was penned by Dan Rubin and will also air on NBC, if the pilot episode secures a series order that is.
This project marks Rauch’s big TV return in a main role after playing Big Bang’s Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz up until the show’s 2019 finale.
Her former co-stars Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Kunal Nayyar (Raj Koothrappali), Mayim Bialik (Amy Farrah Fowler) and Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper) have since found greener pastures in the likes of The Flight Attendant, Criminal: UK, Call Me Kat and Netflix’s Hollywood.
