According to actor Simon Pegg, The Boys is “gonna get crazier” with Season 4.

At the red carpet premiere for his upcoming film Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Pegg spoke with Collider (via YouTube) about his return in Season 4 of the Prime Video series. “You know how crazy The Boys is? It’s gonna get crazier,” Pegg promised. “I had so much fun on that show.”

Pegg’s history with The Boys goes back to the original comic series created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson, which used the actor’s likeness as inspiration for the character Hughie Campbell. In Prime Video’s adaptation, Hughie is played by actor Jack Quaid, but Pegg was cast to play Hughie’s father, Hugh Campbell Sr. The actor has played this recurring role since The Boys Season 1, but the last time fans saw Hugh Sr. was during a brief video call with his son in Season 3.

The Boys Season 4 Reunites Hughie’s Family

Pegg will receive more screen time in The Boys Season 4 than before. The actor explained, “I’m in about four episodes, and it was a joy to be back. It’s a great crew. They are an amazing bunch of people, and that show is sick as f*ck!”

The expansion of Pegg’s role as Hugh Sr. is coupled with the introduction of the character’s ex-spouse and Hughie’s mother, played by actor Rosemarie DeWitt. Pegg said of his castmates, “It was so great to go back and play Hugh Sr. I love Jack. It was great to work with Rosemarie DeWitt, who plays Hughie’s mom, who comes back.” Pegg noting that Hughie’s mom “comes back” in Season 4 suggests that Hughie’s family will reunite in the present, as opposed to them only appearing together in flashback sequences.

What Is the Boys, and What Releases Next?

The Boys is a superhero drama that premiered its first season on Prime Video in 2019. Like The Boys’ comic book source material, the show sees superheroes behave more as spoiled celebrities as opposed to altruistic do-gooders, with the corporation Vought International enabling its supes’ problematic and dangerous behavior. Along with Quaid, Pegg and DeWitt playing the Campbells, the series’ cast also features actors Karl Urban, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capone and Karen Fukuhara as the rest of “The Boys” working to bring down Vought. The company’s wicked supes are portrayed by Antony Starr, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Jensen Ackles, Claudia Doumit, Nathan Mitchell and others.

Filming on The Boys Season 4 wrapped in April 2023, but the upcoming season does not have an official release date or window as of writing. The series’ college-themed spinoff, Gen V, is set to premiere sometime in Fall 2023, however. The first three seasons of The Boys, as well as its animated spinoff The Boys Presents: Diabolical, are available to stream now on Prime Video.
