The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey has given an update on when season 2 might air.
Ramsey, who plays Ellie, revealed that the follow-up season should be with us by early 2025 at the very latest.
“I think we’ll probably shoot at the end of this year, beginning of next,” she said on The Jonathan Ross Show. “So it’ll probably be the end of 2024, early 2025.”
Adapted from the acclaimed PlayStation game of the same name, The Last of Us focuses on two survivors of a fungal apocalypse who may hold the key to the future of mankind.
At the time of the drama’s second season renewal, executive producer Neil Druckmann shared in a statement: “I’m humbled, honoured, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey.
“The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast & crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations.”
Co-creator Mazin, who also has Chernobyl to his name, added: “I’m so grateful to Neil Druckmann and HBO for our partnership, and I’m even more grateful to the millions of people who have joined us on this journey.
“The audience has given us the chance to continue, and as a fan of the characters and world Neil and Naughty Dog created, I couldn’t be more ready to dive back in.”
Just last month, Ramsey also discussed the eventuality of playing out Ellie and Dina’s lesbian relationship from the game on screen.
“I’m really excited, to be honest, for the Ellie/Dina story. I’ve watched a cut together, someone’s made a phenomenal – I don’t know how they do it – like an amazing edit of just the gameplay, like Ellie and Dina’s love story,” she said.
“So I’m excited to play that out.”
