The Last of Us spoilers ahead.

Despite The Last of Us wrapping up its first season recently, there’s still plenty to explore on HBO’s mushroomy apocalypse.

That’s not a reference to an already confirmed second season, though, because ComicBook reports that a surprise 31-minute behind-the-scenes documentary has now been added to HBO Max’s The Last of Us collection.

It premiered on the US network yesterday (March 14), with repeats scheduled to air this month on HBO 2 and HBO Signature as well; a UK release is yet to be announced.

Titled Making of The Last of Us, this all-access special details the Herculean effort that went into adapting the iconic PlayStation video game.

Pedro Pascal (who plays Joel in the series), Bella Ramsey (Ellie), Gabriel Luna (Tommy), Anna Torv (Tess), Merle Dandridge (Marlene), Rutina Wesley (Maria), Ashley Johnson (Anna), Jeffrey Pierce (Perry) and Storm Reid (Riley) all appear, as do series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, as well as the artists responsible for designing the Infected.

Let’s hope those Episode 9 giraffes make a cameo, too.

In other news, Mazin and Druckmann sat down for the official Last of Us podcast this month, where potential season 2 changes cropped up.

“The moment-to-moment beats and characters, they might stay the same, they might change. We will do what needs to happen to that story as it transfers from one medium to another,” said Druckmann.

“We will also take advantage of the freedom we have in television that wasn’t there in the game, specifically the advantage of changing perspective,” Mazin revealed.

“So, we will use what we can use in a new medium to tell that story and we will go through the same process of adaptation. It’s us again and there will be Pedro and there will be Bella. And there will be blood.”

The Last of Us airs on HBO in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW in the UK.
