The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has opened up about what Rick Grimes was like before the zombie-filled apocalypse.
Sheriff Rick awakens from a coma with the world already collapsed but quickly finds himself in a leadership position as his group look to him for answers. Eventually, Rick is forced to some extreme lengths to keep his group safe, including becoming brutal.
In a new, special edition of The Walking Dead comics, The Walking Dead Deluxe #61 by Kirkman and Charlie Adlard, Kirkman spoke about this special psyche (via Screenrant).
This deluxe edition presents the full original issue of The Walking in full colour (as opposed to the black-and-white version it was originally printed as) while there are extra pages added where Kirkman answers fan questions about the series.
One such interaction is as follows: “Do you think Rick ever had that nomad hardened version in himself hidden away even before the apocalypse ready to be triggered?”
Kirkman wrote: “I don’t. The potential was obviously there, but I don’t think it existed until it needed to.
