The fight sequence in the very first episode of Netflix’s The Witcher is probably the most famous scene of the entire series, and for a good reason. We see the full scope of Henry Cavill’s physical capabilities as Geralt under the precise and professional supervision of fight choreographer Wolfgang Stegemann.

Back in May, we revealed that Wolfgang Stegemann has returned for Season 3 of The Witcher, but it wasn’t clear how much would he be involved. Now, thanks to Henry Cavill himself, we know.

Wolfgang Stegemann is back in The Witcher full-time!

Speaking to Josh Horowitz in a live-recording for his Happy Sad Confused podcast, Henry Cavill was asked about The Witcher Season 3. Henry replied that he couldn’t say much, but teased the action sequences in the new season.

“What I can tell you is that I was working with Wolfgang Stegemann again”, he began. “You will know his work from Mission Impossible and also from the Blaviken fight scene, which is episode one, season one.”

Henry revealed that unlike Season 1, Stegemann’s role was much larger: “We got to do a whole season together and working with Wolfie is amazing. He is such an extraordinary stunt coordinator, very close friend, so talented.”

Finally, Henry proceeded to tease the action in The Witcher Season 3: “There’s a lot of action in Season 3. We got an awful lot together. Sometimes by the skin of our teeth and working miracles, but we got it done and we hope that you guys enjoy our work, because Wolfie really is the best.”

Stegemann also did a fight between Geralt and a certain spymaster

What we can add ourselves to what Henry said is that Stegemann was not only stunt and fight coordinator for The Witcher Season 3, but often also a 2nd Unit director, so his role and authority was larger than in Season 1.

One of the scenes that we know of that Stegemann did for Henry Cavill was for Episode 6 of Season 3. It involved Henry Cavill’s Geralt, Graham McTavish’s Dijkstra and a broken leg. Book readers surely will know what this scene is.

Anyway, make sure to watch the full episode with Henry Cavill. It’s only two minutes that features anything Witcher, but the entire talk is fairly interesting.

Season 3 of The Witcher is in post-production for a Summer 2023 release.
