It’s getting more and more obvious they’re not tied up with the original in any way.
No one knows exactly what the original plan was for dealing with The Big Bang Theory canon in Young Sheldon.
It’s safe to assume that the writers were trying to follow character development as closely as possible while still making the show entertaining.
At some point, however, it feels like they gave in to the temptation to forget all the restrictions and just have fun with it.
Considering the popularity that Young Sheldon got separately from the original show, it was a fair choice to make; besides the group of hardcore Big Bang Theory stans who switched to Young Sheldon and stayed for all 6 seasons, there are also people who started watching the show on its own.
The more family-oriented show, set in late 80s Texas, certainly makes it more appealing to the broader audience.
To appeal to them, it would be wiser to change the characters’ motivations and plots a bit when necessary, and that seems to be the case with Young Sheldon.
Not only is everyone speculating that the big twist of George’s death just won’t happen, but more writers have already given in.
According to the story of Sheldon’s life that we know from The Big Bang Theory, he was supposed to find out that his father was cheating on his mother when he was just 13 years old, on a spring break.
Although we’ve seen enough to assume that George and Mary’s marriage will end and that they’ll move forward with the cheating storyline, the timeline is already messed up.
At the end of season 6, Sheldon Cooper is already 14 years old, and Spring Break has of course passed without anything of that magnitude happening.
This may not seem like a big change, but it is for fans of The Big Bang Theory, as these events are meant to explain one of Sheldon’s most important habits.
He started knocking on the door three times to prevent this from happening again.
It’s hard to guess what Young Sheldon creators have in mind for the show now, but be sure to stay tuned for more season 7 behind-the-scenes updates and news.
