Tim Burton is a celebrated director, animator, and artist. A peculiar, one-of-a-kind persona, he is widely regarded and hailed for bringing gothic culture into the mainstream entertainment industry. The executive producer of Netflix’s hit series, Wednesday, Burton recently spoke about his experience of working on the show and declared his fondness for the show’s lead, Jenna Ortega.

While he also revealed a bit about the anticipated season 2 of the series, he declared that Wednesday would have been impossible had it not been for Ortega. He even stated that it is her ‘special talent’ that makes the series special.

Tim Burton On Wednesday Star Jenna Ortega
Tim Burton, apart from being executive producer also directed four episodes of Netflix’s hit series, Wednesday. Just as the whole world praised Jenna Ortega‘s exceptional talent and portrayal of the popular ‘goth’ character, Burton too sang high praises of the actress. He even declared the show wouldn’t have been possible if hadn’t been for Ortega.

In an interview with BFI, the celebrated director stated,

“When I did Wednesday, the reason I loved it is I just related to the character so much. But to me, it could not have been done without her. You can write it good, you can do whatever you want to do, but that kind of a character would need such clarity and purity and strength. A person has to have that. So for me, she basically made the show that way.”

Calling Ortega ‘special’, the Edward Scissorhands director revealed another reason why he adores the young acting prodigy,

“She’s one of the most aware, not only as an actress, but everything, around the camera, the set. She’s a very special talent. And she’s done a lot of horror movies, which I love too. That gave her a special place in my heart. ‘Oh, you’re doing another horror. Good.’”

His kind words resonate with the audience as well, for it was Jenna Ortega’s quirky portrayal of Wednesday that made the series so enjoyable.

Tim Burton On Season 2 Of Wednesday
After the popularity of season 1 of Wednesday, a season 2 is naturally much anticipated. Although the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have long shut down the production, Tim Burton confirmed that he would be a part of the next season.

When asked about whether he would be working on the next season after having directed 4 episodes of the first one, he stated in the interview with BFI,

“I mentally put stuff on hold until all the strikes are over. I can edit and do things I can do, but until the veil is lifted, then things get back into it. But yeah, I’ll be involved in some [way]. I’m not quite sure, because everything has stopped at the moment.”

While he was unable to reveal much about the project, his involvement has been exciting news for the fans, many of whom wish Burton would have a more active role in the series due to his particular talent.
Wednesday season 1 can be streamed on Netflix, while the season 2 release is yet to be announced.
