Outlander Season 6 did not end the way that it should have. There were more storylines to tell. Will they be included in Outlander Season 7?

While we’re used to some cliffhanger endings in Outlander, we aren’t used to the sort of cliffhanger we got at the end of Season 6. The fates of various characters have been left in question. Jamie was left riding across the beach to get back to Claire, while Tom Christie was doing what he could to make Claire’s time in the Wilmington jail as comfortable as possible.

Of course, we just have to read the book to see how all this is going to play out. Not everyone wants to read the books, though, and that’s okay! Don’t worry; no spoilers in this post!

What we do want to point out is that the cliffhanger ending was not originally planned. There were more stories to tell before the sixth season ended.

Four episodes of Outlander Season 6 have moved to Season 7
During summer 2021, we learned that Outlander Season 6 filming had come to an end. However, there was a change of plan. It would only have eight episodes instead of the originally planned 12.

The other four episodes had been planned out and written. However, there wasn’t the time to film, and we later found out it was linked to Caitriona Balfe’s pregnancy. Would that mean those four episodes end up forgotten about, or will the stories still be told?

Maril Davis, executive producer of the series, made it clear to Parade that the episodes are still going to happen. There will be some changes, but the storylines will still be told. The changes are more in the writing to suit the new placement of the episodes. For example, Diana Gabaldon wrote Episode 9 of the sixth season, and she shared that the episode wouldn’t suit the setup for a premiere episode so things need to be tweaked.

At least we’ll get to see how it was all going to play out. Then we’ll get into the original storylines planned for Outlander Season 7. With the season getting 16 episodes, there is plenty of time to tell all the planned storylines while we wait for news about Season 8.
